LIHUE, Kauai — Kauai prosecutors say a judge sentenced a 38-year-old man to five years in prison for pushing a tourist off a cliff.

KITV-TV said Justin Klein of Kilauea was sentenced Wednesday to the maximum penalty after pleading guilty to reckless endangerment.

Klein threw a 31-year-old Japanese tourist off a Kalalau Valley cliff in December 2012. She was critically hurt and spent 10 days in the hospital before recovering. Klein was originally charged with attempted murder.

Klein turned himself in to police four months later.
